Master of Science in Computer Science- Cybersecurity Major From Florida State University (FSU) 2021

Students interested in pursuing a thorough education in the area of cybersecurity and information assurance should consider the MS program in computer science with a cybersecurity concentration.

Portfolio options are available for thesis as well as non-thesis projects. Science and engineering are vital for cybersecurity, and this concentration provides students with the necessary skills.

The scope of this encompasses computer and network security, software security, data and information security, as well as applied cryptography and computer forensics.

It is the process of protecting systems, networks, and data from malicious attacks, such as those against computers, servers, mobile devices, and electronic systems.

The term is also used to describe information technology security or electronic information security. From business to mobile computing, the term can be used in several contexts, divided into a few general categories.

With an increasing number of data breaches occurring every year, an ever-growing global cyber threat is evolving rapidly.

Public entities, medical services, retailers and retailers experienced the most breaches and malicious criminals were largely responsible.

Cybercriminals tend to target businesses that gather financial and medical data, but any business using a network can be a target because of customer data, corporate espionage, or customer attacks.

Why a student should choose Florida State University to study Major in Cybersecurity?

All majors require 30 semester hours of computer science courses numbered 5000 or higher, including the two approved computer science courses.

Unless the department chair approves the outside course after the major professor justifies its importance to the student’s research, up to one 5000 or 6000-level course outside the department can also count toward the 30 hours required.

Directed individual study, supervised teaching, supervised research, seminars, and courses containing prefix CGS are excluded.

Cybersecurity Major:

  • Newly admitted students must meet with the Director of Graduate Studies to complete a form that indicates whether any of the following should be taken. Students’ records will be maintained in the departmental graduation file.
  • Students earning a BS in Computer Science from another institution (not FSU) may need to take one or more courses we require that were not taught at their previous institution. Prior to graduation, students must take these courses.
  • Normally, an undergraduate prerequisite is satisfied when a B- or better is achieved in the undergraduate course or when an S is achieved in the graduate course co-listed with the undergraduate course.

Conclusion

The concept of cyber security awareness encompasses both awareness and action to protect an organization’s information assets.

Cybersecurity awareness means that employees in an enterprise are aware of cyber threats, the potential impact of cyber-attacks on their business, and the steps needed to reduce risk and prevent cybercrime from infiltrating their online workspace.

Therefore, Directors, managers, and CEOs must educate their employees about cyber security awareness in order to keep their data safe.
